More Bill: The Bill Mott Band, Washington Post article
As a young boy in the second grade, Bill's older brother had aspirations to play the guitar. Looking at that beat-up old Strat Bill uses today, you can see the wars that Bill and his brother had over who would be the guitar player. Bill won.
From those schoolboy days through life-changing heart replacement surgery, Bill has maintained that initial passion and gone on to be something of a local legend as a player and bandleader. Like Rick, Bill released a critically-acclaimed CD Dancing With Angels, and like Rick, Bill earned good reviews and radio airplay.
For years, the Bill Mott Band has been a staple in the bar scene, and Bill has hosted open mike nights that brought him into contact with some of the finest musicians in the mid-Atlantic. Folksinger Billy Kemp, bassist Johnny Castle, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Bill Kirchen, and blues artist Deanna Bogart have all played with Bill at one time or another. Mookie Segiel from Bob Weir's Ratdog and Dennis Chambers from Santana have both played with Bill also. Members of the Persuaders, Jr. Cline and the Recliners, and the Dangertones have all been part of the Bill Mott Band along the way.
From his days with a Washington Talent Agency show band to forming the Whitewalls, Mojo Riders, and the Avenue Boys, Bill has been a creative force wherever he goes. The list of players and bands that this Nomad has influenced goes on and on. As a teacher of guitar who studied with Tom Principato, Bill is now guiding the stars of tomorrow. With the wealth of knowledge that Bill has to impart, who knows? Maybe some little second grader will go on to be a rock star.
